The
tender was stored for many years in a barn on the Rayner's
Estate. It was then taken into the care of the
Gilson family who owned the local bakery. The
tender was renovated and displayed in a building at
the front of the bakery. In 1997 when the bakery
had closed the tender was passed to the Parish Council
for safe keeping on behalf of the people of Colnbrook.
The
Ostrich Inn offered a room at the front of the building
to display this precious reminder of days gone by.
The wheels, axle, seat and brake lever were carefully
removed by a volunteer force made up of some parish
councillors and other local residents and the tender
was passed through the window opening and then reassembled
inside the room.
If
you are passing by take some time to look at this lovely
machine. We
now have one of Colnbrook's treasures inside another.
