Colnbrook Treasures

Colnbrook Fire Tender

For decades, after it had come to the end of it's working life, the Colnbrook Fire Tender was stored in a barn under a pile of hay.  When the barn itself fell down this is what remained.  The Tender is now one of Colnbrook's treasures and is looked after by the Parish Council.

The picture below shows the horse drawn Colnbrook Fire Tender built in 1832 outside of it's new home, The Ostrich Inn.

The tender was stored for many years in a barn on the Rayner's Estate.  It was then taken into the care of the Gilson family who owned the local bakery.  The tender was renovated and displayed in a building at the front of the bakery.  In 1997 when the bakery had closed the tender was passed to the Parish Council for safe keeping on behalf of the people of Colnbrook.

The Ostrich Inn offered a room at the front of the building to display this precious reminder of days gone by.  The wheels, axle, seat and brake lever were carefully removed by a volunteer force made up of some parish councillors and other local residents and the tender was passed through the window opening and then reassembled inside the room.

If you are passing by take some time to look at this lovely machine. We now have one of Colnbrook's treasures inside another.

The Colnbrook Clock
The Colnbrook Clock was unveiled in June 1903 on the corner of Platt's store as a memorial to the coronation of King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra in August 1902.

Circa 1931 the building was demolished and no suitable site was found for the clock.  It was stored in a coach house in the High Street until it was restored in 1977 to commemorate the Queen Elizabeth Silver Jubilee.

The clock can now be seen stored next to the old fire tender in the front of the Ostrich Inn.
